Literature and poetry is one of the huge ones. Theatre is a close second. I am currently in between university degrees. I have just completed my undergrad, and am awaiting my Master’s year to begin in September. I am in English, with specific concentration in Renaissance and Restoration drama and poetry. That will be my life come September. On the social side of things, I am a mild-mannered ginger who is in love with everything theatre. Though to be truthful, it is the one thing I don’t talk about all that much. I want this blog to be about literature and poetry first and foremost, and I’ll try and keep it that way, with some theatre thrown in every now and again. Enjoy reading my blog.

Pope Quiz, books away.

betterbooktitles:

Thus, I’ve tried a very small and short poem. Lines of 4 or 5 syllables, and only 5 stanzas. Enjoy.

Away

I do not miss you
As if I need you
Like my beating heart.

When you leave me
I do not cry
Or mourn your exit.

I exalt in joy.
For, when you leave
I am not alone.

You are here and there.
We are together
Apart. Go

Away. I will
Be here when you
Return. Still waiting

But remember.
I’ll be there too.
Lost within you.

The hiatus has been lifted. Here is a poem I’m working on. Still in rough stages, has lines that don’t work, etc. But I’m happy to put pen to paper, or finger to key… Anyway, here it goes:

Untitled

The morning is a black-rocked tomb of memory
Though years or decades have past already
Each next second feels too quick and forever
Coated in the stuck staying power of time.

Dust-filled sunlight invades the room
Like a child in his first adult fight,
Knowledge of what to do, there, but only
there. Encased. Eyes open, body weak.

For how could this tomb be so warm?
How does one unearth from death’s bliss.
A morning-breath kiss wakes the dead,
Tasting of yesterday’s happy beat.

To live like this would be so fresh,
A bakery divided into seconds and minutes.
Each blink and yawn a new time
To say I love you with closed eyes.

Let me lie here then encased in you.
Our sheets a happy prison keeping us in.
Or so we hope. Together for now.
Morning only to be eclipsed tomorrow.

two posts in one day. Oh Em Gee.

These care copy paste from a word document entitled “poems in progress”. More accurately, they are a couple of lines stringed together that I liked, but need a ton of work. Enjoy.
Untitled 1

Your fear drizzles down the
Overcast shadow of your
Still incomplete heart,
Like a dryer’s spin cycle stopped short
By a careless passerby. Sticky set,
the not quite dry shirt, the damp badge
you wear reminds you of an absence
repeated over and over again, eternally
unfinished.

Untitled 2

Why can’t you follow my point?
I’ve tried, I assure you. Through the dips
And valleys of narrow-minded thinking,

Next up, I’m going to try to write a slam poem. Something necessarily verbal, and performative. But I need to find that something that I’m passionate about. Maybe a ginger poem? Dunno. But I want to do one if I can.

I’m not dead…

I’m not dead…

Seems like I’ve been AWOL. Ok…truth, Grad school is as much as most people make it out to be. It’s not so much the work, as the motivation to work on school work for 40/50 hours a week. That’s certainly the hardest part right now.

Even though this is insane, I’ve decided to start writing again. I plan to try and write a play to enter the Fringe writing competition. And who knows, I could submit this to EAS as well. Could be fun. I found an idea I’m passionate about, that resonates, and well…let it begin. Which this stroke of genius would have came in the summer, but you can’t control this stuff. Just gotta harness it :D As a very intelligent man I know says “writing doesn’t go anywhere, it waits for you, pateiently, ideas on the other hand…”

Good to be back on tumblr!

"Harry Potter, it’s not Twilight, you know; we’re not selling sex."

“Harry Potter, it’s not Twilight, you know; we’re not selling sex.”

- Emma Watson for Empire Magazine, October 2010
Submitted by thistypeoflove (via quote-book)

“Nothing can go amiss when simpleness and duty doth tender it.”

“Nothing can go amiss when simpleness and duty doth tender it.”

"You might even provide a Heaven for them. I’ve definitely enjoyed writing on it, and quoting some wisdom I’ve found from others. Anyhow, the reason I am posting now is to describe a changing of the guard that is about to occur. I’ve been using this blog more or less to quote things, mention literature, etc. And hopefully, that won’t change once school begins. (However I do imagine I will be posting less on here). What will change, is that this blog will become more a record of my adventures into graduate school. I think that will probably be a way to keep me sane, and give me something to do OTHER than the insane amounts of grad work I am going to be expected to do. So ya, that’s about it.

On a completely unrelated note, I got extremely lucky and was able to get tickets for The Tempest on September 12th! They’re not horrible either, and I only overpaid $2 on the original ticket price. Seats are in the first row in the balcony, but on the far left side…However, I could not say that I missed a chance to see Christopher Plummer live. That alone is more than worth it! This will be my 8th visit at Stratford, and my 9th show. I will have seen everything in the Avon theatre, and everything in the Festival Theatre. Sadly, I have yet to see a show in the Studio Theatre. I will not make the same mistake next year. I am going to buy my tickets EARLY to see Shakespeare’s Will. Won’t miss that… The Stratford Festival is truly a Canadian gem, and I am a little sad that it took me this long to find it. However, I will be back, every year, multiple times. And once I’m 30, I will pay full price for my shows, and support them as much as I can!

This is shaping up to be a nice little update. The summer is finally coming to a close, and I couldn’t be happier. In less than two weeks I will be attending Grad seminars and orientation, etc. and in only two days I turn 23. The end of summer is very often a good time for me, and it is doubly important this year. Upcoming also, I will be in my 7th play in less than two years, and HOPEFULLY, I will be chosen to direct my second play for a show in March. THAT would be a mini dream come true. Theatre really is the hobby I’ve been looking for, for over 8 years. And now that I’ve found it, it is impossible to stop!

I am extremely happy, more than I’ve been in the last few years. My life has significantly changed for the better, and I am enjoying it. I am confident, happy and excited for every tomorrow. It might be annoying to some, but it’s the way I feel, and I shouldn’t have to feel bad for being content with where I am in my life. I owe 99% of that happiness to the theatre community, and my close friends! Especially those friends who…perhaps, totally love horses? I thank them all, because this summer has been great because of them. And now I can’t wait until fall!! More to come!

I think I’ve mentioned before this gem I have found from Keats. The poem is called A Song of Opposites, and it’s really a fun and enjoyable read. Instead of just quoting it, I’m giving it all to you!

WELCOME joy, and welcome sorrow,
Lethe’s weed and Hermes’ feather;
Come to-day, and come to-morrow,
I do love you both together!
I love to mark sad faces in fair weather;
And hear a merry laugh amid the thunder;
Fair and foul I love together.
Meadows sweet where flames are under,
And a giggle at a wonder;
Visage sage at pantomine;
Funeral, and steeple-chime;
Infant playing with a skull;
Morning fair, and shipwreck’d hull;
Nightshade with the woodbine kissing;
Serpents in red roses hissing;
Cleopatra regal-dress’d
With the aspic at her breast;
Dancing music, music sad,
Both together, sane and mad;
Muses bright and muses pale;
Sombre Saturn, Momus hale; -
Laugh and sigh, and laugh again;
Oh the sweetness of the pain!
Muses bright, and muses pale,
Bare your faces of the veil;
Let me see; and let me write
Of the day, and of the night -
Both together: - let me slake
All my thirst for sweet heart-ache!
Let my bower be of yew,
Interwreath’d with myrtles new;
Pines and lime-trees full in bloom,
And my couch a low grass-tomb.

(via darkhelmetsgirl)

(via darkhelmetsgirl)

"Do I contradict myself?
